FAQs
Here are some answers to the questions we get asked most frequently.
General
- What is Paganism?
Paganism is a very broad definition for numerous polytheistic faiths. For more information, click here. - How long has the Tasmanian Pagan Alliance been running?
The Tasmanian Pagan Alliance has been running since 1997. The Pagan Alliance in Australia has been running since 1991, and traces its origins back to the Pagan Federation which has been running in the UK since the 1970s.
Moots
- What is a 'moot'?
The word 'moot' means 'meeting' or 'assembly', and can be used to describe something which is open for discussion and debate. This is the word we use to describe our monthly social meetings. These meetings are also referred to as 'Pagans in the Pub'. Currently, we have four regular monthly moots around the State. - What happens at a moot? What can I expect?
Each moot is different, but the basics stay the same - all members and interested parties are welcome to attend our moots for a drink and/or a meal. People of all ages are in attendance, although we do ask that you are over 18, as often these meetings are run in bars or similar locations. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian with you.
At a moot, you can expect a casual gathering of like-minded people. The main purpose of the gathering is to socialise, and some moots may have guest speakers, discussion topics, or other activities on the night. Moots are designed to be casual and fun. - Should I bring anything to a moot?
Just bring yourself, money for drinks or food if you want it, and a positive attitude! - I'm not sure if I am Pagan or not - can I still attend a moot/event?
If you would like to know more about Paganism and what Pagans do, a moot is a great place to learn. You'll soon know if it's your cup of tea, or not! We welcome anyone to attend our moots as long as they come with a positive attitude and an open mind.
The Website
- Why are parts of this website password-protected?
We have sections of this site that are password-protected to maintain the privacy and security of our members and their information. Some of our members may not be 'out of the broom closet' to family, friends, colleagues, etc. and by displaying their identities in photographs and information freely, we may leave our members open to discrimination (due to many peoples' misunderstanding of Pagan religions). Additionally, this is a bonus for our members; when you become a member, you'll gain access to the membership area and all the information that is provided there.
